Guinea-Bissau is one of the poorest countries in the world, with only 2.6% of the 1.5 million inhabitants having access to electricity. In early 2012, FRES in partnership with the European Commission established FRES Guiné-Bissau in Gabú, a province in the east of Guinea-Bissau that borders on Senegal and Guinea. As of March 2014, over 1,300 rural clients benefit from access to electricity.
